Porcelain box, Kangxi (1644-1722)
SEE COMPLATE VIDEO OF THIS BOWL
This Chinese blue and white porcelain box has been recovered from an unknown shipwreck in the South China Sea.
During some time by the very first years of the 18th century a disaster struck this ship which caused it to never arrive to its destination, and with it its cargo of valuable blue and white porcelain.
The quality of the porcelain and its decoration is high and the Dutch entrepot at Batavia (Jakarta), Java, is in my eyes the most likely destination.
Very similar pieces has been found and described in the Ca Mau wreck find, discovered South of Vietnam, in 1998. See: The Ca Mau Shipwreck 1723-35, p.165, fig. 186 for a similar box.
Date Qing dynasty, Kangxi (1644-1722) period.
