USED HARBOR TUG IN KOREA

The main purpose of using the domestic tug boat which can be divided into mainly harbor tug & towing tug. From two of these, the harbor tug it is towing another vessel or into port and except some tug boats work at the shipyard, the most of tugs in Korea as a member of the KOREA TUGBUSINESS CO. December 31, 2012 currently has 213 ships and guarding & helping the harbor of the Republic of Korea.

By region, about 30 tug boats are operating each in Busan, Ulsan and Yeosu and Incheon harbor. Also in Pyeongtaek, Daesan, Gunsan, Masan, Pohang, Donghae, Jeiu harbor, and etc and all harbors are operated by the tug boats.

Meanwhile, 44ships of 1000PS grade, 42 ships of 2000PS grade, 62 ships of 3000PS grade, 50 ships of 4000PS grade, 15 ships of 5000PS grade are operating these days. Most of new building Tug boats are 4000PS grade and decreasing trend from 1 to 2000 PS mini-class of tug boats and 3 to 5000PS grade of bigger size of tug boats are expected to grow more and more.

In addition, as many as 40 years, little more than 20 years old ship selling and replacing to 4000PS grade of new ships and tugs are between about 20 to 40 year old have issues of parts supply and operational convenience, so the buyers in the Philippines, Indonesia and other Southeast Asian are preferred the main engine made in Japan named NIIGATA & the ZP propeller.

KOREA SNP Co., Ltd. main exports ships have reflected the flow of ships were constructed in Japan and imported to South Korea which have NIIGATA & ZP and now operating in Korea. Many of Southeast Asian buyers were imported from Japan but these days turning their face to Korea as the main reason is the price cheaper than in Japan and the quality ( maintenance status) are also comparable to the Japanese vessels and those also can be found in Korea.
