Sobuj Bangla Unnayan Sangstha ( SBUS) is a non-government voluntary organization ( NGO) has been working for the rural poor and disadvantaged people in Gaibandha District that established in1998 though it obtained legal registration from social service department during 2000. Gaibandha is a northern district of Bangladesh comprised of 7 Upazilas, 82 Unions and 2 municipalities with an area of 2, 179 sq. km. Brahmaputra, Tista, Jamuna and Karotoa have crisscrossed the district with numerous branches where 30 percent areas are char area. About 2 lakhs people are the inhabitants in 122 different islands of those rivers. Natural calamities especially flood; draught, erosion, tornado etc are common scenario of this district. Every year people who are poor and living in char and river basin areas have to loss huge assets, crops and so on by flood and river erosion. Women and children are extremely victimised in many ways and forms and they are the victims of dual exploitation both by poverty and gender discrimination. Rich & influential people always take chances to exploit women physically, mentally and economically by giving low wages as maidservant. At the family level women are fully denied from their rights what a human being entitled. Gobindagonj is the biggest Upazila of Gaibandha with a total of 4, 61, 428 populations with 482 sq. km area coverage. Besides, thousands of families are belonged to tribal who are living very inhumanly at every steps of life. The literacy rate of this district is very poor; especially women in remote and tribal areas belonged illiterate. Women and girls are the victims of early marriage, polygamy, divorces, dowry, rapping and many other kinds of physical torture as well as domestic violence due to economical deprivation along with influence of religious bound and prejudice of the society. Under such circumstances, Sobuj Bangla Unnayan Sangstha ( SBUS) , a non-government organization ( NGO) come close to the poor people with particular emphasis to bring out positive changes in their life and livelihoods. SBUS realized that proper education, massive awareness and women empowerment are very prior to develop to change the condition and position of rural men and women. 2. VISIONS, MISSION, GOAL AND OBJECTIVE Vision Fair, free, just and equitable society Mission: Bring together through unity, youth and adult group, producers intermingling with timely and effective initiative and efforts for the development of the marginal, disadvantaged, underprivileged poor people. Besides, organization cooperates, negotiate and work together with different development committee, local government administrations. Integrated and comprehensive measurement with policy advocacy with special concern to deprived children, disabled and women. Goal To develop socio-economic status of the people of underprivileged and disadvantaged poor people living in Gaibandha district Objectives  § Increase literacy rate within the working areas through formal, informal and non-formal education courses  § Ensure enrolment of drop out and poorest children in education and encourage adult people for education  § Create massive awareness on different development issues through effective social mobilization  § Campaign to stop early marriage, acid throwing, dowry, child trafficking, domestic violence etc  § Efforts to establish human rights at family and society level through adequate family planning  § Unite people and strengthened their united capacity  § Support to access different level service delivery provision  § Influence policy advocacy to increase responsiveness of service providers  § Transform human being into resources by adequate skill transfer training  § Protect and reinstate antique culture of the tribal people who are the old neighbours of the country  § Rescue and evacuation for the disaster affected people
